New ASPX series Cutter for Titanium Alloy Machining

MITSUBISHI MATERIALS CORPORATION Metalworking solutions company (Company President: Tetsuya Tanaka Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has introduced the new ASPX series cutter for titanium alloy machining.

ASPX series is an indexable milling cutter for highly efficient machining of difficult-to-cut materials such as titanium alloy. Vibration control features and low cutting resistance enables stable and highly effective cutting.

Aircraft landing gear and structural parts are often made from large titanium alloy billets that require heavy machining. As a result a high efficiency tool is needed, but this also generates large amounts of chips that require disposal. To meet this need, Mitsubishi Material has developed a new high efficiency cutter series, ASPX.

Main features of the new ASPX series.

1. ASPX leads the latest machining theory by adopting irregular flutes and optimally placed inserts to drastically reduce vibration.

2. Controlled coolant supply applied to the rake angle of the cutting edge enables highly efficient chip discharge.

3. A large rake angle and honing (edge preparation ideal for titanium machining) enhance the low cutting resistance and high fracture resistance.

4. The MP9140 insert grade is a combination of a cemented carbide material with outstanding fracture resistance and a smooth coating with excellent welding resistance.
