Overseas Launch of a new Coated Carbide Grade MV9005 for turning heat resistant super alloys

Mitsubishi Materials Co., Ltd. (Company President: Ohara Kazuo Address: Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has launched a new grade, MV9005, for turning heat resistant superalloys. It was released for sale on October 2, 2023.

For machining Ni based heat-resistant alloys for the aviation industry, coated inserts are widely used in the medium finishing area where the tool life for machining large parts with only one corner is required.

The MV9005 grade incorporates a newly developed Al-Rich coating technology. It combines a high Al content ratio with a high hardness (Al,Ti)N film, which greatly improves the resistance to oxidation, plus in addition to its hardness, it also provides extremely high wear resistance even during high-speed machining of heat resistant super alloys.

Already on sale in Japan, it has been well received, and sales to overseas markets of 52 different types of inserts, mainly ISO denomination, will also start.

Main features MV9005 are as follows

  1. Excellent wear resistance that improves machining efficiency during high-speed cutting of Ni base heat-resistant super alloys.

  2. Al-Rich coating technology makes it possible to increase Al content and hardness of (Al, Ti) N coating by maintaining its crystal phase.

  3. Chip breaker geometries include LS, MS,RS and a wide range of MJ, MA and other high performance chip breakers are also available.
