Mitsubishi Materials has introduced the new LC2005 DLC coated grade, an advanced turning insert developed to deliver superior performance in the precision turning of non-ferrous metals, particularly aluminium alloys. Designed with a newly engineered thin hydrogen-free diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating, LC2005 combines exceptional hardness with outstanding lubricity to significantly improve machining efficiency and component quality.
At the core of the LC2005 grade is Mitsubishi Materials’ latest grade technology, which provides an optimal balance between wear resistance and adhesion. Traditional hydrogen-free DLC coatings offer high hardness but can be prone to peeling due to differences in hardness between the coating and the substrate. LC2005 overcomes this challenge through an innovative thin-film structure that greatly enhances coating adhesion, ensuring stable performance even during demanding cutting operations.
The result is a turning insert that delivers excellent wear resistance and longer tool life, reducing tool changes and improving productivity. The high hardness of the DLC coating also minimizes flank wear while maintaining a consistently sharp cutting edge, enabling reliable machining across a wide range of aluminium alloys.

LC2005 also enhances surface finish quality, an essential factor in precision component manufacturing. The combination of a smooth thin-film coating and a sharp cemented carbide substrate edge produces superior surface finishes compared with conventional solutions, helping manufacturers achieve tighter tolerances and improved component performance.
In addition to performance benefits, the improved durability of LC2005 contributes to greater machining efficiency and sustainability. Longer tool life reduces tooling consumption and downtime, supporting more efficient production processes.
With its advanced coating technology and optimized cutting performance, the LC2005 grade provides manufacturers with a reliable solution for high-precision, high-productivity machining of non-ferrous materials in industries such as automotive, aerospace and precision engineering.
