MITSUBISHI MATERIALS U.S.A. CORPORATION announces the release of new chip breakers for M‑class negative inserts. The MV9005 grade features a specially engineered carbide substrate with exceptionally high hardness, which helps prevent plastic deformation of the cutting edge—even during high‑speed machining of superalloys. This substrate is further enhanced with a high‑aluminum‑content (Al,Ti)N coating layer. The coating maintains superior hardness while significantly improving oxidation resistance, resulting in excellent overall wear resistance. To ensure optimal performance in Ni‑based heat‑resistant alloys, a surface‑smoothing treatment has been applied, providing superior welding resistance. Supporting these technologies is a newly developed bonding layer designed for high adhesion strength. This layer effectively prevents chipping and peeling of the coating from the carbide substrate.
